The summer nights are all aglow
With elfin lamps that dart about.
Their tiny lights, now high, now low,
Like neon signs flash on, flash out.

I wander through the growing hay
Where all their dancing millions are,
And catch a few to watch the play
Of fireworks within a jar.

They fill the air with gleam and spark
Of restless lanterns in the night.
And I'm aware how very dark
The world would be without their light.
