Tango For Blue Herons
Words and music by Winfield Shaw Clark
Tango for Blue Herons (2.35 MB)
Blue herons’ courtship by the bay;
Blue herons’ ritual display –
It’s merely instinct, scientists would say;
It’s all been programmed in their D.N.A.
Ah, but look, look how they dance
With their great wingspans spreading out like fans,
Who can say that it’s by chance?
Who can say that it’s by chance?
Ah, heads held towards the sky
They entwine their necks and cry a mournful cry.
See how the dance reveals
Everything the dancer feels.
Blue herons’ courtship by the bay;
Blue herons’ ritual display –
Blue herons.
